Exploring the impacts plastic pollution has on Port Philip Bay
EarthEcho, founded by grandchildren of the explorer Jacques Yves Cousteau, has arrived in Melbourne to explore the impacts plastic pollution has on Port Philip Bay.
EarthEcho has brought its annual expedition to Victoria to examine the consequences of development and human pollution on the coast. A key part of this pollution is plastic pollution - from products like single-use plastic grocery bags.
EarthEcho is an organisation that encourages young people to act now for a sustainable future and EarthEcho Expeditions is an annual program that leverages the Cousteau legacy of exploration and discovery to bring science, technology, engineering and mathematics education content alive in schools.
The Expeditions involve a week-long exploration of a geographic area facing an environmental crisis, examining the impacts that humans have on communities and water resources across the globe.
The population density and growth and urban sprawl in Melbourne make it the perfect place to explore the threat to off shire ecosystems in Port Phillip Bay.
